Today I did a trial run for my triatholon w/ Carla & Paula (couple friends that I work with). This was a HUGE eye opener for me to see how much improvement I need before "race" day. There is DEFINITELY some heavy duty "brick training" that needs improvement.
My results:
1/3 mile swim - 10 minutes (25 laps w/out my wetsuit in the pool I have been training at b/c the lake temperature is too cold) - I was pleased with this portion but there is always room for improvement.
Transition 1 - Drove to the race course from the pool so I didn't include the driving time.
11.5 mile bike (road the race course) - 45 minutes
I was really flying on this part until I started pedaling against the wind and my time started adding up on me. YIKES!!! This is my strongest event (I feel) after participating in a spin class at the gym for awhile (10 months)and now teaching spin twice a week. Aaron & I have also been riding our bikes on the weekends on the trails nearby (pretty good endurance rides).
Transition 2 - put my bike on the bike rack, remove helmet, gloves, etc - 3 minutes
3 mile run - 42 minutes
UH OH...my legs feel like jelly and won't listen to my brain telling them to move. I run 3 steps and feel like I am going to fall down. :( So I end up running/walking the whole time. What a disappointment to myself. I am so upset!!!!
Needless to say, I have to step it up w/ the transition from biking to running in the next 2 weeks. I have a week break July 2nd-7th for our family reunion in San Antonio. (We will see if I am able to squeeze in any brick training during the trip.)
Next weekend I am attempting to swim in my wetsuit in Liberty Lake w/ Carla. I will keep you posted!!!!
