We stayed at Lucas's friends Brian & Andrea for the first couple nights. They have chickens that Lucas was in charge of taking care of while they were out of town. That was an interesting job for him. Definitely a "Kodak moment"!!!! Later that evening we decided to venture out to a local school that has been remodeled into various restaurants, pubs, and a movie theater. Pretty interesting.
Saturday entailed beginning our day w/ breakfast at Pine State restaurant. They had some imaginative food descriptions on the menu. After our bellies were full we made our way downtown to the market and then off to REI. We were also able to venture over to a Japense Garden that was unbelievably gorgeous. The day came to a close w/ dinner at Salvador Molly's which was displayed on Man vs. Food for one of their daring challenges. As I'm sure most of you can guess, Lucas decided to accept the food challenge (eat 5 jalepeno fireballs and receive your pic on the wall). After much sweat, fire blowing heat from the mouth, lots of water, and numbing of the mouth Lucas completed the challenge. What an accomplishment!!!
Sunday began w/ our breakfast venture to Slappy's where you can make your own pancakes. Yes you guessed it.....this has become Lucas's fav restaurant!!! Anywhere that lets you choose your own toppings and make pancakes on a hibachi griddle gets a gold star. That afternoon we ventured on a short bike ride along the Columbia River and made a quick trip through Ikea. I love that store. Our day came to a close over in Vancouver, WA at a bbq for a VW Club that Lucas has become part of in the area. What a fun group of peeps!
Monday came very quickly and it was time to drive back to Spokane, WA. Aaron and I decided to drive along part of the old Columbia Scenic Hwy. During this drive, we stopped to see the Multnomah Falls. What a beautiful sight!
Enjoy the pics below that capture part of our trip!
